Swan River

Town in western Manitoba, Canada, on the Swan River, 64 km/40 mi southwest of Swan Lake, and 255 km/158 mi northwest of Brandon; population (1991) 3,900. It is a farming and lumbering centre. The Swan Valley Harvest Festival is held every August.

A fur trading area in the 1800s, it was the subject of a rivalry between the Hudson's Bay and North West companies. Eventually it became the headquarters for missionary work by the Church of England.
