Sweet, Sharon (1951- )

US soprano. She studied at the Curtis Institute, and made her opera debut at Munich in 1985, as Aïda. With the Deutsche Oper, Berlin she sang Wagner's Elisabeth in Japan; she was Elisabeth de Valois in Paris and Hamburg, in 1987. She made her US debut as Aïda at San Francisco (1988), and appeared in the house first performance of Verdi's Stiffelio at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York (1994). She made her London debut in 1994 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Turandot in Puccini's eponymous opera. She was admired for her powerful projection of dramatic roles.
