Sweetwater County

County in southwestern Wyoming; area 26,812 sq km/10,352 sq mi; population (1990) 38,800. Its capital is Green River. Created by gold miners as Carter County, it is Wyoming's largest county. It is a mining and sheep raising area, also producing coal and oil. Tourism is important.

It is watered by the Green River and Big Sandy River and includes the Great Divide Basin and Red Desert in the northeast and Ashley National Forest and the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area in the southwest.
