Sweynheym, Conrad (died 1477)

German cleric, who with Arnold Pannartz introduced the printing press into Italy. They set up their press in the Benedictine monastery at Subiaco, near Rome, in 1464, and moved their operations to Rome three years later. Their output had a specifically humanist slant and editors of their printings of classical authors included Nicholas of Cusa's former secretary, Giovanni Andrea Bussi, and Niccolò Perotti.
