Swift Current

Swift Current

City in southwestern Saskatchewan, Canada, 232 km/144 mi west of Regina, on Swift Current Creek; population (1991) 14,800. One of Canada's largest experimental farms is here. Local industries include dairying, meatpacking, the manufacture of animal feed and agricultural equipment, and some lumbering.

The city evolved from a Canadian Pacific Railway depot, and became a service centre for a substantial wheat farming and livestock raising region. Natural resources developed in the area include oil, helium, natural gas, and sodium sulphate.
