Swift and Co. v. US

    0.03 sec.

Swift and Co. v. US

US Supreme Court decision of 1905 dealing with federal regulation of local business transactions. When the meatpacking industry colluded to fix the price of fresh meat in Chicago, the federal government issued an injunction against price fixing. The beef trust appealed, arguing that local commerce was outside of federal jurisdiction. The Court upheld the injunction, ruling that, since the local transaction affected businesses that participated in interstate trade, the federal government had the power to regulate it.
