Sylvester, Michael (1955– )

US tenor. After study at Bloomington, he sang at Stuttgart in 1987, as Radames and Pinkerton. In 1987 he appeared with Cincinnati Opera, as Sam in Floyd's Susannah; he made his New York debut in 1987 with the City Opera, as Rodolfo. He sang Pollione at the Paris Opéra (1990). He was Don José at Hamburg and Cavaradossi at the Vienna Staatsoper. In 1990 he sang Samson at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, returning as Gabriele Adorno in 1991. He returned to New York to sing at the Metropolitan Opera House, as Rodolfo in Luisa Miller and Don Carlo under James Levine, which he also recorded (1991–92).
