246 BCEgypt, Ptolemaic Kingdom, Syria, Seleucid KingdomKing Ptolemy III of Egypt sets out on a career of conquest in the Seleucid Empire, now under Seleucus II: the Third Syrian War. Ptolemy is partly motivated by a desire for revenge for the murders of the Seleucid king Antiochus II and his wife Berenice (Ptolemy III's sister) by Antiochus's ex-wife Laodice in 249 BC.
245 BCEgypt, Ptolemaic Kingdom, Syria, Seleucid KingdomKing Ptolemy III of Egypt temporarily defeats and permanently weakens most of the Seleucid Empire. He reaches as far as Bactria and the borders of India. However, he is forced to return to Egypt to meet internal trouble and the Seleucid rulers resume control.
