Szábo, Ferenc (1902–1969)

Hungarian composer. He was a pupil of Bartók and Kodály, at the Budapest Conservatory. A convinced Communist, he settled in Russia in 1932, returning to Hungary after World War II. In 1957 he became director of the Budapest High School for Music.

Works

opera Be Faithful unto Death (posthumously produced Budapest 1975); Song Symphony, symphonic poems Class Struggle and November seventh, suite The Collective Farm; two string quartets, three piano trios; mass songs including A Song of Voroshilov; songs.
