Szabelski, Bolesław (1896–1979)

Polish composer. He studied with Szymanowski and Statkowski at the Warsaw Conservatory, and from 1945 taught composition and organ at the Katowice Conservatory. He embraced the ideals of the Polish avant garde from the late 1950s.

Works

Orchestral

five symphonies (1926–68), sinfonietta, Concerto grosso for orchestra; concertino and concerto for piano and orchestra.

Choral

Magnificat for soprano, chorus and orchestra.

Chamber

two string quartets; piano and organ music.
