Szałowski, Antoni (1907–1973)

Polish composer. He studied with his father, a violin professor at the Warsaw Conservatory, also piano with two masters and composition with Sikorski. He later studied with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, where he settled and produced works in which local French influences predominated.

Works

Orchestral

symphonies, symphonic variations; capriccio and overture for string orchestra; piano concerto (1930); three songs with orchestra.

Chamber

four string quartets (1928–56); trio for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon; suite for violin and piano; sonatina for clarinet and piano; violin and piano pieces; partita for solo cello; sonata, two sonatinas, and other works for piano.
