Tay Ninh

Capital of Tay Ninh province, southwest Vietnam, situated 90 km/56 mi northwest of Ho Chi Minh City; population (1990 est) 38,100. The town lies on a tributary of the Vam Co Tay River in a region that has large rubber and sugar plantations. Rice and coconuts are also harvested. Tay Ninh is the centre of the indigenous religion Caodaism, and is the site of the Caodai Great Temple, built between 1933 and 1955.
