Trail

Mining centre in Kootenay Boundary Regional District, southeast British Columbia, Canada, on the Columbia River, 77 km/48 mi southwest of Nelson; population (1991) 8,000. It lies at the centre of a rich mineral bearing district containing gold, silver, lead, zinc, and copper. Industries include smelting, sawmilling, food-processing, and the manufacture of chemicals and fertilizers. It was founded in 1895 as a mining and smelting town.
