Taal

Town of Batangas province on Luzon island in the Philippines, situated on a strip of land between Lake Taal and the Gulf of Balayan; population (1990) 34,900. The town is a centre for an agricultural region. Lake Taal is a volcanic crater 24 km/15 mi wide, with a new and active volcano in its centre; in the 20th century it experienced five major eruptions, the most recent in 1988.
