Tadcaster

Town in North Yorkshire, northern England, on the River Wharfe, 15 km/9 mi southwest of York; population (2001) 7,350. There are stone quarries nearby, and industries include brewing. Tadcaster lies on the site of a Roman encampment (its Roman name was Calcaria), and about 3 km/2 mi away is the site of the Battle of Towton in the Wars of the Roses.
