Tadolini, Giovanni (1789–1872)

Italian singer and composer. He studied composition with Mattei and singing with Babini, and in 1811 was engaged by Spontini as accompanist and chorus master at the Théâtre des Italiens in Paris. He left in 1814, but returned 1830–39, after living in Italy and composing operas. He married the soprano Eugenia Savonari, who created Donizetti's Linda di Chamounix (1842) and Maria di Rohan (1843), and Verdi's Alzira (1845).

operas Le bestie in uomini (1815), La principessa di Navarra (1816), Il credulo deluso (Il finto molinaro (1817), Tamerlano (1818), Moctar, Mitridate (1826), Almanzor (1827); canzonets, including Eco di Scozia with horn obbligato, etc.
