Tagliavini, Ferruccio (1913–1995)

Italian tenor. He studied at Parma Conservatory and won first prize in a singing competition in Florence in 1938, which enabled him to study with Amadeo Bassi in Florence, where he made his debut in 1938, as Rodolfo. He soon established himself as a leading bel canto singer, appearing at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York 1947–54 and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London 1950–56. Other roles included Edgardo, Werther, Cavaradossi, and Mascagni's Fritz.
