Tailleferre, Germaine (1892–1983)

French composer. She was the only woman member of the group known as Les Six. Her works, though never attaining the popularity of her colleagues', include the opera Il était un petit navire (1951), the ballet Le marchand d'oiseaux (1923), and several instrumental works.

She studied in Paris and joined Les Six, first appearing as a composer in public in 1920. She lived in the USA 1942–46.

Pastorale for small orchestra, piano concerto (1919), ballade for piano and orchestra.
