In Islam, divorce performed by the husband. Talaq takes the form of three repudiations of the wife, preferably separated by a period of reflection. After three statements of divorce the couple cannot remarry unless the wife marries another man and is widowed or divorced again. Divorce is the most despised permitted action of a Muslim. Divorce instigated by the wife is mediated by the court and is known as khul'.
