Talavera de la Reina

Town of Toledo province in Castilla-La Mancha, central Spain, on the River Tagus, 120 km/75 mi southwest of Madrid; population (2001) 75,400. Products include soap, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and Talavera ware (brightly decorated ceramics). Spanish and British forces defeated the French here in the Peninsular War 1809. There are Roman, Moorish, and Gothic remains.
