Talking Heads

US New Wave rock group formed in 1975 in New York; disbanded in 1991. Their nervy minimalist music was inspired by African rhythms and funk and was a precursor to world music. Albums include More Songs About Buildings and Food (1978), Fear of Music (1979), Little Creatures (1985), and Naked (1988).

The band comprised David Byrne (1952– ) on vocals and guitar, Chris Frantz (1951– ) on drums, Jerry Harrison (1949– ) on keyboards and guitar, and Tina Weymouth (1950– ) on bass. The band members also recorded separately. Byrne has composed avant-garde and ballet music and has also toured with a Latin-American band. Weymouth and Frantz had hits as the Tom Tom Club. Talking Heads also released two films, Stop Making Sense (1983) and True Stories (1986).

The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
