Talman, William

    0.03 sec.

Talman, William (1650-1719)

English architect. He was a contemporary of Christopher Wren, to whom he is often compared, although Wren's output was significantly more accomplished and prolific. Influenced by French and Italian baroque, Talman worked on Chatsworth House, Derbyshire, 1687-96, designing the east front and the monumental south front, which is characterized by severe rusticated masonry and heavy keystones.
