Tan, Melvyn (1956– )

Malaysian-born English keyboard player. He studied at the Menuhin School, notably with Vlado Perlemuter, and at the Royal College of Music, London. He played the piano until 1980 then gave concerts on the harpsichord and fortepiano (the predecessor of the modern piano) with such ensembles as the Academy of Ancient Music, the English Chamber Orchestra, and the London Classical Players. He has played with and directed the New Mozart Ensemble and plays music by Schumann, Weber and Chopin, in addition to earlier repertory.
