Tarare

Opera by Salieri (libretto by Beaumarchais), produced at the Opéra, Paris, on 8 June 1787. It became known later under the title of Axur, re d'Ormus (Italian version by Da Ponte, produced Vienna, Burgtheater, 8 January 1788). In the story, Captain Tarare rescues the abducted wife Astasie from King Atar and stages a successful rebellion.
