Tarbert

Fishing village in Argyll and Bute unitary authority, Scotland, 59 km/37 mi northeast of Campbeltown; population (2001) 1,350. The settlement straddles the narrow isthmus between the heads of West Loch Tarbert and East Loch Tarbert, a small inlet of Loch Fyne. The near junction of the two lochs almost severs the Kintyre peninsula from mainland Scotland. It possesses excellent harbour facilities and boatyards.

Tarbert's ancient castle was erected by Robert (I) the Bruce in the 14th century.
