Tarboro

Town and administrative headquarters of Edgecombe County, eastern North Carolina, on the Tar River, 24 km/15 mi southeast of Rocky Mount; population (1990) 11,000. A marketing centre for peanuts, cotton, and tobacco, it also manufactures machinery, textiles, fertilizer, cottonseed oil, and veneer.
