Tarim Basin

Internal drainage area in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northwest China, between the Tien Shan and Kunlun Shan ranges; area about 900,000 sq km/350,000 sq mi. It is crossed by the River Tarim and includes the Lop Nur salt lakes. The Taklimakan Desert lies to the south of the Tarim River.
