Terracina

Seaport and resort in Lazio region, west-central Italy, on the Tyrrhenian coast, 35 km/22 mi southeast of Latina; population (1993 est) 38,800. Muscatel wine is produced. Situated at the southern extremity of the Pontine Marshes, Terracina was originally a Volsci town called Anxur; it later became a Roman colony, and a Roman aqueduct remains.

The cathedral (11th–17th centuries) stands on the site of an ancient temple, and overlooking the town is a ruined temple of Jupiter.
