Taruskin, Richard

Taruskin, Richard (Filler) (1945– )

US musicologist. He has published Opera and Drama in Russia (1981) and wrote the articles on Russian composers and operas in Opera Grove (four volumes, 1992). He also writes for the New York Times and is a critic of the early music movement.

He took a PhD at Columbia University, New York, in 1975 and taught there 1973–87. In 1987 he was appointed professor at Berkeley, in California.
