Tashlin, Frank (1913-1972)

US film director and cartoonist. He worked as an animator for Warner Brothers' Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes during the 1930s, started the syndicated comic strip Van Boring in 1934, and then worked as a story director for the Walt Disney studios on the Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck series. In the late 1940s, he began writing feature scripts, and in 1950 directed The Lemon-Drop Kid, after which he worked with comedians such as Bob Hope and Jerry Lewis. As a director of comedy and satire he was responsible for, among others, The Girl Can't Help It (1956). He also wrote several books of cartoons.

As a director of comedy and satire he was considered the best of his time. His films are as follows: Artists and Models (1955), Hollywood or Bust (1956), The Lieutenant Wore Skirts (1956), The Girl Can't Help It (1956), Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter (1957), Bachelor Flat (1962), Who's Minding the Store (1963), TheDisorderly Orderly (1964), The Alphabet Murders (1965).
