Tausig, Carl (1841-1871)

Polish pianist and composer. In 1858 he made his debut at a concert conducted by Hans von Bülow in Berlin, then toured, and in 1862 settled for a time in Vienna, where he gave concerts with programmes of modern music.

He studied with his father, the pianist Aloys Tausig (1820-1885), and with Liszt at Weimar. In 1865 he married, settled in Berlin, and opened a school of advanced piano playing. He died of typhoid.

Orchestral and chamber

symphonic poems; piano concerto; concert studies, exercises, bravura pieces and numerous transcriptions for piano.
