Taverner, John (c. 1495–1545)English organist and composer. He wrote Masses and motets in polyphonic style, showing great contrapuntal skill, but as a Protestant renounced his art. He was imprisoned in 1528 for heresy, and, as an agent of Thomas Cromwell, assisted in the dissolution (closure) of the monasteries. How to thank TFD for its existence?
