Tavernier, Jean Baptiste, Baron d'Aubonne (1605–1689)

French traveller, born in Paris. He began his career as a traveller in 1631, when he went to Turkey and Persia (Iran). In the following years he travelled widely in the East, visiting Persia, Syria, India, and Batavia (Java). He published his famous Six Voyages in 1676.
