Also found in: Encyclopedia 0.24 sec.

Taylor, Cecil (Percival) (1933– )

US jazz musician. A conservatory-trained pianist, he emerged in 1955 as a bandleader with an uncompromising, abstract approach to jazz language and harmony. He worked sporadically until the 1970s, but eventually won recognition, particularly among Europeans, for his style of extended, non-tonal free improvisation.

Taylor was born in New York City.
