Taylorville

City and administrative headquarters of Christian County, central Illinois, on the South Fork of the Sangamon River, 40 km/25 mi southeast of Springfield; population (1990) 11,100. It processes local soybeans and manufactures paper, garments, and animal feed. Coal is mined in the vicinity.
