Tazewell County

County in central Illinois, bordered to the west by the Illinois River; area 1,683 sq km/650 sq mi; population (1990) 123,700. The population is concentrated in the north, around the industrial cities of Pekin (the capital), Morton, Creve Coeur, East Peoria, and Washington. The central and southern parts of the county contain coal mines and farmland.

The Mackinaw River flows across the county.
