The Tasmanian devil, despite its name, is not particularly aggressive – it is more likely to scavenge for dead animals than to attack living ones. Nevertheless, it has powerful jaws, capable of crushing large bones.

Carnivorous marsupial Sarcophilus harrisii, in the same family (Dasyuridae) as native ‘cats’. It is about 65 cm/2.1 ft long with a 25 cm/10 in bushy tail. It has a large head, strong teeth, and is blackish with white patches on the chest and hind parts. It is nocturnal, carnivorous, and can be ferocious when cornered. It has recently become extinct in Australia and survives only in remote parts of Tasmania.
