Teaneck

Township in northeastern New Jersey, 3 km/2 mi east of Hackensack, between the Hackensack River and the Palisades of the Hudson River; population (1990) 37,800. It is primarily a bedroom community for the New York area, but also manufactures such products as porcelain, spices, and fuses and houses numerous office buildings.

It was settled by the Dutch in the mid-17th century. Major development came after the construction of the George Washington Bridge (1931) to the southeast. A campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University is here.
