technology education

Training for the practical application of science in industry and commerce. Britain's Industrial Revolution preceded that of the rest of Europe by half a century and its prosperity stimulated other countries to encourage technological education.

The US established a number of technology institutes on European lines, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1861 and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 1824. Intensive training of technologists, exceeding the pace of both Western Europe and the USA, has been emphasized by the states of the former Soviet Union and China.
