T-shirt

T-shaped top, often made of stretch cotton or a cotton mix, usually with short sleeves, although long sleeves are also used. T-shirts are normally worn as summer clothing or sportswear.

Originally worn by soldiers under their uniforms during World War I, the T-shirt was later adapted for labourers. Since the 1960s they have been popular fashion garments and are often printed with slogans, designs, patterns, and images. Katherine Hamnett became noted 1983–84 for her silk and cotton T-shirts emblazoned with logos such as ‘Stop Acid Rain’.
