TaeguThird-largest city in South Korea, situated between Seoul and Pusan; population (2002 est) 2,543,800. Textiles are the major industry of the city, but machinery and the metal trades are also significant and there is a large export trade in apples to eastern and southeastern Asia. FeaturesNearby is the Haeinsa Temple (dating from 802), one of the country's largest monasteries and repository of the Triptaka Koreana, a collection of 80,000 wood blocks on which the Buddhist scriptures are carved. There is also the Tonghwasa temple from the 17th century.
