The early satellite Telstar, made by AT&T Bell Labs and launched by NASA. Telstar ceased transmission after it was affected by radiation from a nuclear test on Earth.
US communications satellite, launched on 10 July 1962, which relayed the first live television transmissions between the USA and Europe. Telstar orbited the Earth every 2.63 hours, and unlike later geostationary satellites was only usable when in line-of-sight of two tracking stations.
