Temirtau

Industrial town in Qaraghandy oblast (region), northeastern Kazakhstan, 30 km/19 mi northwest of the city of Qaraghandy; population (1990) 213,000. Coal is mined nearby. The town also has iron and steel mills, and chemical works producing synthetic rubber.

The Qaraghandy metallurgical complex was set up in Temirtau in 1970.
