Temperley, Nicholas

Temperley, Nicholas (1932– )

English-born US musicologist. He has published editions of Edward Loder's Raymond and Agnes (produced in Cambridge, 1966) and the Symphonie Fantastique (in the New Berlioz edition, 1972). He edited collections of English Songs, 1800–60 (1979), The Music of the English Parish Church (two volumes, 1979), and London Pianoforte School (20 volumes 1984–87). His completion of Mozart's L'oca del Cairo was produced in Illinois in 1991.

He studied at Cambridge 1954–59 and was assistant lecturer there 1961–66; he became professor at the University of Illinois in 1972, and chairman of the musicology division in 1992.
