Tempietto

The Church of S Pietro in Montorio, Rome, built by Donato Bramante. Its site on the Janiculum was reputedly the place of St Peter's crucifixion. The design, completed in 1502, was based on the writings of Vitruvius: a circular domed building surrounded by Doric columns. It was the one work of contemporary architecture celebrated by Andrea Palladio.
