Terek

River in northern Caucasia, in the southwestern Russian Federation; length 623 km/387 mi. The Terek rises on the southern slopes of Mount Kazbek in Georgia, from where it traverses the main Caucasus mountain range through the narrow Daryal gorge. It then turns east and passes through the republics of Chechnya and Dagestan, before flowing into the Caspian Sea north of the port of Makhachkala.
