Terrace

City in west-central British Columbia, Canada, on alluvial terraces (former banks) of the Skeena River, near the Hazelton Mountains, 113 km/70 mi northeast of Prince Rupert; population (1990) 11,400. It is in a mining and fishing region. Industries include lumbering and furniture manufacture. It is a commercial and transportation centre and a gateway to a variety of river, lake, and mountain recreation areas.

Terrace was founded in 1910 by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway and grew into a sawmill town.
