Terrell

City in northeastern Texas, 48 km/30 mi east of Dallas; population (1990) 12,500. It is a banking and agricultural market centre, and has various light industries. Terrell State Hospital is a large employer.

It was laid out in 1872 when the railway came through, although the Blacklands farming area had been settled two decades earlier. Southwestern Christian College (1949; Church of Christ) and the Trinity Valley Community College health sciences centre are here.
