Texaco (Chevron)

US oil company founded in 1901. Texaco remained independent until 2001 when it merged with Chevron in a $37 billion stock deal to create Chevron Texaco, one of the world's largest energy companies. Texaco was dropped from the company title in 2005.

Texaco began as an oil-drilling operation in Texas and adjoining states, and soon opened a chain of petrol stations. From 1936 it has been exploring and exploiting oil reserves all over the world.
