Thalmann, Ernst

    0.01 sec.

Thalmann, Ernst (1886–1944)

German Communist politician and associate of Stalin.

He was a member of the Reichstag, 1924–33, leader of the German Communist party, and stood as Communist candidate for the presidency in 1932. A close associate of Stalin, he maintained a narrowly pro-Soviet stance. After Hitler came to power Thalmann was sent to a concentration camp and was probably executed at Buchenwald, August 1944.

He was born in Hamburg.
